I have been a very busy girl this past week.  I started a new term of college again, and that’s kept me hopping.  I’m trying to get ready for Birka which is only a week and a half away now.  And I’ve been doing some reflecting and making plans and coming up with ideas… which I will reveal in February.  Oooh the suspense!  😛

Five X Fifty: Day 15 – Christmas

I had meant to get this post up yesterday, since it was 12/12/12 and there’s the whole 12 Days of Christmas thing and instead of five items I have twelve, but it didn’t happen.  I was busy all day yesterday working on new items, relisting old items in my Etsy shop that had been removed because I took them to the craft fairs instead, and photographing these twelve items.  By the time I started to list them, it was already nearly 11pm and my bed was calling me, so I gave up and got the listings done this morning instead.  So my whole “12” theme may not make sense today, and the special I was running yesterday is technically over, but because you are reading this blog and have been so patient with me, I’ll let you in on a secret:  I have not yet deactivated the 121212 coupon code, so you can still get 36% off your order if you place it before I get up tomorrow morning at 7am eastern time and turn the code off.  Here’s your chance to get your holiday shopping done at a great discount!  You’ve only got 12 days until Christmas… ooh, there’s that number again!

With less than two weeks to go, it’s time to get into the Christmas spirit, and I don’t mean the ones behind the bar… though if you want to indulge, I’m not going to stop you.  I might ask you to share, though!  But before we get too tipsy, check out these festive necklaces, earrings, pins, and hair elastics!

I also have a bunch of other Christmas themed handmade necklaces…

I still need to update pictures of some of my older items that I relisted.  It’s amazing how awful those early pictures are!  It took me entirely too long to figure out how to use my camera, and I could probably still use some more lessons, but I’m much happier with the ones I take now and will be updating all those old pictures as soon as I can.

Hopefully seeing all these fun Christmas designs will get you into the holiday mood… and the holiday shopping mood! 😛  Don’t forget, you can use the coupon code 121212 and get 36% (12+12+12=36… get it?) off your order until I wake up tomorrow morning and turn it off.  And if you really want to go on a a shopping spree, head over to my IndieGoGo campaign and make a $50 contribution so you can get a $210 gift certificate to spend in my store… with that coupon code you can get about $328 worth of my products for that $50!  Just choose “other” for your payment method when you place your order in my Etsy shop and leave me a note in the comments section that you got a gift certificate on IndieGoGo, and I’ll verify everything and send you an invoice for anything over the amount of your gift certificate.

I’m currently $405 shy of reaching my goal on IndieGoGo, and $1405 short of doubling my goal… remember if I can raise double my goal, I’ll double all the rewards, so please share this link: http://www.indiegogo.com/rewondered2 and you might just get to go on another shopping spree in my Etsy shop! 🙂

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go work on getting Day 16 up…

Monday Musings: Rebooting

Craft Fair Season is finally over and I can finally get back to concentrating on my online business.  I’ve learned a lot about craft fairs though, and will continue to do them in the future, applying what I’ve learned.  But that’s for another post, today is about rebooting my business and my brain for “online” versus “in person” sales.

First on my agenda is processing the orders I received last week and getting them out in the mail today.  Interestingly enough, I have had more sales in my Etsy shop in the first nine days of December than I did at all five craft fairs combined.  So I have several orders that need to go out.  I keep most of my items in “kits” and don’t actually put them together until I make a sale.  This allows me to spend more time creating new products, rather than making a bunch of one thing that is going to sit around gathering dust until someone buys it.  So that’s why my products generally take 1-5 business days to be shipped out.

Next, I need to reorganize my inventory and get photographs taken so I can get more items listed in my Etsy shop.  This includes items for my Five X Fifty posts.  You’ll be seeing several of those this week, as I hope to get at least 2 or 3 posted each day.  I’m also going to start a “Tuesday Top Ten” weekly post featuring the ten items most favorited in my shop over the previous week.  I’ll kick that off tomorrow with my Top Ten all time most favorited items.  Any guesses which ones those are?  What are your favorites?  Feel free to post a link to them in the comments. 🙂

I also have several custom orders to work on, and I’m talking to a few other people about their ideas, so I’ll be making myself available on IMs later this evening.  I plan to have those that I’ve already received payment for out by the end of the week.  There’s still plenty of room in my schedule to get more custom orders out before Christmas, so let me know what you have in mind!

Speaking of Christmas, I posted an FAQ about holiday shopping on my Facebook page last night.  I will copy it here, in case you missed it there:

  1. Most items in my Etsy shop can be ordered through the 18th.
  2. All orders will ship by the 20th, the date USPS gives as the last date for Christmas delivery of First Class Mail. If you want an upgrade to Priority Mail, I can ship that way through the 21st, but an additional fee will apply so please contact me to arrange payment.
  3. Custom orders should be finalized by the 15th. Remember, I cannot start work on a custom order until payment is received and I’ll need time to gather any supplies I don’t already have on hand, plus have time to actually make everything. If your custom order idea is particularly large or complicated, please contact me with details ASAP so I can let you know if a Christmas delivery date is possible.
  4. If a Christmas delivery date is not possible, but you still want to give my items as a gift, I will make a card to give your gift recipient, letting them know what is being made and when to expect it.
  5. Items can be shipped directly to your gift recipient, and I will gift wrap for no additional charge if you let me know it’s a gift.
  6. I will be putting more items up this week. If you have any suggestions or requests for particular types of items or themes, please leave them in the comments here and I’ll see what I can do! I have tons of charms that can be made into Simple Charm Necklaces or Earrings, so if you are looking for a gift for someone who likes ask me if I have any related charms.
  7. I recommend going to http://www.indiegogo.com/rewondered2 first and making a contribution there, as you’ll be able to choose one item for free and get a gift certificate for the amount of your contribution. There are extra steps involved than just ordering from my Etsy shop directly, but you’ll get more for your money! Information about redeeming your rewards is here: https://rewondered.wordpress.com/2012/11/16/regarding-rewondered-redoubled-rewards
  8. If you haven’t yet received your gift certificate from your IndieGoGo contribution, just choose “other” for payment method when you place your order on Etsy and leave a note in the comments section. I’ll verify your contribution and send you an invoice for any balance due.
  9. I will be on vacation from December 22nd through 25th.
  10. If you have any other questions, please email me at rewondered@gmail.com or post a comment here or on my Facebook page.

Speaking of Facebook, Intuit is running a “Small Business, Big Wishes” promotion where I could win $5000 to expand my business, and I’d really appreciate a vote for me, as they look at the ones with the most votes to decide who will win.

So that’s my Massive To Do List™ for this week: concentrate on getting more items up in my Etsy shop and putting together orders for the holidays.  And avoid catching the plague that my housemate has… there will be lots of orange juice, tea, and vitamins imbibed this week!  I’m going to be a very busy girl, and I don’t have time to get sick.  You hear that germs?  Back! Back, I say!!  😛

And speaking of back, back to work for me!  Stay tuned for more Five X Fifty posts later today!

Five X Fifty: Day 4 – Button Rings

It’s Monday, and time to get back to work!  Which is somewhat laughable when I realize I was up at 4am on Saturday to finish getting ready for the craft fair, spent all day there, and got home around 8pm.  Most of Sunday was spent putting things up on eBay to take advantage of a free listing event.  As I said, no rest for the wicked, and I am definitely on Santa’s naughty list this year!

Which means I’ll have to look elsewhere to get what I want for Christmas.  Though really, the only thing I want is for my business to be successful.  So if you want to get a gift for me, why not buy one of my items as a gift for someone else?  And hey, you’d cross two people off your gift list at once!  Awesome!  Of course, you can also contribute to my IndieGoGo campaign, which could actually equal at least three gifts… see, I’m here to help! 😛

Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, and here I am talking about Christmas shopping.  Sorry.  So instead, let’s talk about Button Rings, which is the subject of this post anyway, if the headline is anything to go by!

As I mentioned, I have a massive button collection that really needed to be pared down, so I have several new products that involve buttons.  These ones have been made into rings with adjustable bands, so they can fit just about anyone.  They are a cute novelty item, and I’ve got quite a few of them, as you can see here:

Adjustable Rings Made By Rewondered

These are available at the craft fairs, but I’ve put five up exclusively on Etsy.  To go with the bat pin and bat snap barrettes, there’s this ring:

Black Bat Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00002 - $4.95

Black Bat Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00002 – $4.95

Like black, but not into bats?  This is a nice round black button, with three grooved stripes:

Black Striped Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00003 - $4.95

Black Striped Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00003 – $4.95

Perhaps you’re looking for something a bit more “bling”?  The pictures really don’t convey the metallic undertone of this ring:

Golden Yellow Square Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00004 - $4.95

Maybe you want something a bit more girly?  How about this lovely pearly pink one?

Pearly Pink Square Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00005 - $4.95

Pearly Pink Square Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00005 – $4.95

If pink’s not your color, how about blue?

Blue Textured Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00006 - $4.95

Blue Textured Button Ring with Adjustable Band by Rewondered D225R-00006 – $4.95

Yay!  Day Four is done!  I’ll get caught up with these yet!  Stay tuned for Day 5, where I’ll introduce more earrings…

Five X Fifty: Day 3 – Pins

I know, I know, I am woefully behind on my daily new products.  Take the brain-deadness after the craft fair last Saturday, add in issues getting any kind of a clear picture of my products, and then the rather sudden onset of winter and the cold chasing me from my freezing studio, and here we are with nearly a week since my last new product post.  Sigh.

But I’ve still been making things!  And I have the pictures for days three, four and five done, so it’s just a matter of getting the listings up on Etsy and making the posts here.  Days six and seven are awaiting their chance in front of the camera, and day eight (which should be today) is sitting by the sewing machine, upset with me that I ran off to run errands this morning rather than finish it.  Or I have a couple other ideas that I might be able to finish up by tomorrow for days eight, nine, and maybe even ten and eleven.  I have no shortage of ideas, but that pesky time thing keeps getting away from me!

So anyway, without further ado, let me get to Day 3, and the new Pins I have made and listed on Etsy.  I actually have six pins I just listed, so you get a bonus one!

I decided to go ahead and put up the backlog of the Halloween themed pins I had, because Halloween should totally be celebrated year around, and these spider and bat pins are just too adorable!

Cute Black Spider Pin by Rewondered D225P-00003 - $5.95

Cute Black Spider Pin by Rewondered D225P-00003 – $5.95

Cute Black Vampire Bat Pin by Rewondered D225P-00005 - $5.95

Yay!  I love Halloween.  But alas, as much as it pains me to do so before Thanksgiving is over, I must start thinking about Christmas.  These little snow-covered birdhouse pins are kind of Christmasy…

Green Birdhouse with Yellow Star, Red Trim and Snow Pin by Rewondered D225P-00007 - $4.95

Green Birdhouse with Yellow Star, Red Trim and Snow Pin by Rewondered D225P-00007 – $4.95

Green and Red Checkerboard Birdhouse Covered In Snow Pin by Rewondered D225P-00008 – $4.95

And last but certainly not least, my favorite, this Silver Master Key… wish I could get more of these charms to make more of these pins, but six is all I have.

Fancy Silver Master Key Pin by Rewondered D225P-00006 - $8.95

Fancy Silver Master Key Pin by Rewondered D225P-00006 – $8.95

I have a bunch more pins available at the craft fairs (and of the two items I sold at the last one, one was a pin).  I’ve been working on a few “make as you wait” items and some display items for custom orders, so hopefully those will help me get a few more sales at the next fair.  I think I also need to talk up my IndieGoGo campaign a bit more.  My gogofactor was up this week, and I thank all of you who have helped to spread the word, and ask that you keep sharing it with as many people as you can.  I’ve moved up to page three of the Fashion campaigns, that’s pretty cool!

Also, don’t forget that the Real World Hero auction ends this Saturday, November 10th, so get over there and bid on the Comic Captions Straitjacket Hoodie and HERO T-shirt that I made especially for Real World Hero!

I’ll keep working on the backlog of new product listings and posts, but it will probably be next week before I get caught up.  You can see a sneak preview though by checking out the Gallery on my IndieGoGo campaign. 🙂

Monday Musings: When Several Days Hit You At Once

You know that saying, “I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days hit me at once.”  This weekend was very much like that.  I’ve been burning the candle at both ends trying to get ready for craft fair season, and didn’t sleep at all Friday night as I frantically made sure everything was packaged and priced and ready to go.  I laid down for about an hour and a half, but I don’t think I got more than 20-30 minutes of sleep.  Needless to say, I was pretty exhausted.

Earlier last week, Lorne and I had a conversation that went something like this:

Him: Of course you’re tired, you’ve been working what, 12 hour days?

Me: No.

Him: 15?

Me: More like 16-18.

Him: I rest my case.

Early Saturday morning, we packed up the car and headed to the fair.  My space was in the back corner of the library, which really was a perfect spot for two bibliophiles with social anxiety issues.  It was SO tempting for us to start pulling books off the shelves to read, especially since we were in the Reference section, and I spied a whole shelf full of books on costuming.  I managed to grab some quick pictures of the display while there was a lull in the crowd.

That’s my wonderful, supportive husband in the last pic, wearing the Wondiosyncra-Tee I made for him (it says “Random” – his nickname).  He is such a good sport with all of this and I am very lucky to have him!

I had the “Hero” Wondiosyncra-Tee and Comic Captions Straitjacket Hoodie that I donated to the Real World Hero charity auction on display and got several compliments on them and all my items, especially my Skirt Bags and Button Rings (need to get some of those up on Etsy).  Several people took my business card and fliers, and I was asked by the organizer of another local event in late August if I’d like to participate.  Of course I said yes and she took my contact information.

Unfortunately, sales were a bust, and I didn’t even come close to making back the fees I paid to participate.  I had hoped to make at least ten times what I did and be able to get some supplies to make more of the ideas I have for my 50 New Products in 50 Days.  So I’m going to make a special deal for anyone who contributes to my IndieGoGo campaign between now and midnight Eastern tomorrow, November 6th: get an extra 50% of your contribution on your Rewondered gift certificate.  So a $5 contribution will get one item and a gift certificate for $7.50 and a $50 contribution will get a gift certificate for $235.  This is a limited time offer, because I need funds now in order to get the supplies to complete items before my next craft fair on November 10th.  And don’t forget, if I reach double my goal, ALL rewards will double!

Double My IndieGoGo Goal and I'll Double the Rewards

*

After we got back from the craft fair, I was so exhausted, I went straight to bed and slept until about 9pm.  I went back to bed around 11:30pm and slept in until around 9am, but spent most of Sunday feeling rather brain dead.  I tried to get items listed and blogs posted, but words were completely failing me.  So I gave up and gave myself the day (mostly) off, and worked on a few creative projects instead, again going to bed fairly early and sleeping in this morning.  Apparently I am getting much too old to pull all-nighters!

The good news is that I have most of my inventory for the next show all ready to go.  I’ll just be adding in the new stuff I’m making this week, including the new products I’m working on.  I really want to work on more non-jewelery items and some stocking stuffers and holiday-specific products.  As much as I hate seeing Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving, it’s kind of necessary for these holiday-themed craft fairs.

Now, speaking of several days hitting at once, I am woefully behind on my daily Five By Five posts.  So I’ll be playing catch up and posting Days 3, 4 and 5 later today.  I’m going to change the name to “Five X Fifty” as I think that better describes this promotion, and gives me a little more leeway than a 5pm deadline that is sometimes difficult for me to achieve, depending on what other deadlines and commitments I have for the day.  I also was planning to do Snap Barrettes for the Day 5 product, but I didn’t get a chance to make what I wanted to list, so I will have to postpone that to another day and choose a different item for Day 5.

Also, Etsy now allows listings to have variations, so rather than post five separate items that are extremely similar, I will just post one listing with at least five variations to choose from for some of my new products.  I’ll post individual pictures of each variation here on the blog, so you’ll still get at least five items, but they’ll all link back to just one listing.  Kind of like my Basically Beaded Faceted Bead Necklace where I added it to the Five By Five for each color available: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, or Rainbow.  By the way, additional colors or combinations are available as a custom order. 🙂

So, I’ll be spending today working myself out from under this pile of days.  Luckily, I am feeling much better and much more coherent today.  But now I’m hungry, so I’m going to wander off and find myself some lunch.  Look honey, I’m remembering to eat today!  😛

Reaggregation: A Collection of Unorganized Thoughts – Part 1: Events

  • Aggregation– collection into an unorganized whole

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and planning and brainstorming lately, and asking myself a lot of questions.  I’ve been wanting to write about some of the conclusions I’ve drawn, questions I still have, and ideas I’m working on, but have been having trouble deciding how to present them.  Did I need to write separate posts for each one?  Do a poll?  Get things more concrete before writing anything?  Ooh, and what’s this new idea over here?  Shiny!

Yeah, so I’ve been going around and around in my head lately, and nothing’s been posted here in three and a half weeks.  Wow, three and a half weeks, really?  Where did September go?  I swear it was August just a minute ago… is that a squirrel?

Oh yes, that’s right, I was organizing my thoughts.  As you can see, it’s a bit of a process.  So forgive me if I get rambly…

Events

Let’s start with events.  I really want to have a table or booth at two or three events every month.  One of the things that took up a good chunk of my September days was an SCA event, where I teamed up with a friend of mine who sells Auntie Arwen’s Spices.  This led to me thinking about other products and more period pieces I could make, but I’ll come back to that.  Let’s stay focused on events here. (I know it’s hard, but really Wondie, you can do it!)

So yes, more SCA events.  They’re fun and appeal to my theatre geek side, plus I get to dress up!  Next on the list is Birka in January.  Mostly I’ll just continue to team up with my friend for these, as it gives us both an extra hand for set-up as well as someone to talk to during the slow times.  Plus I am a total newb to the SCA and my friend grew up in it, so she can help me avoid mis-steps.

But January is a long way away, and the holiday selling season is coming up, so that means craft fairs.  Unfortunately, I can’t afford some of the fees for some of the larger shows, and many of those are juried and I don’t have photos of the new products I want to make, since they’re not made yet (remember, more on inventory later).  Also, the deadlines for many have already past, or they’re already full of jewelry artists.  Speaking of deadlines, my funds are extremely limited until about October 15th (and only a little less limited after that), so I’m juggling when I can actually apply, and the longer I wait, the greater the possibility that I won’t be able to do the show due to it already being full.  I also want to stay in New Hampshire to avoid having to deal with out-of-state vendor issues.  I’m still looking, so if you know of any that you think I might want to look in to, let me know.  For the moment, I’m seriously considering these:

  1. Hudson PumpkinFest – October 12-14 – I’d only be able to afford to do one day, likely the 14th.  My major concerns for this show is that it is outdoors, which means I would need to have some kind of tent/canopy, and the only one I currently have access to is 10×20, which means I need to pay for extra space as well as fill it with inventory.  Also, the deadline is October 1st.  So this one is looking unlikely, as I just don’t have the funds for all the extras I’d need that quickly.
  2. Windham High School Craft Fair – October 27th – This benefits the school’s drama and band programs, so I definitely want to support that.  Just need to get some pictures and I can send my application in.
  3. John Stark Arts Market – November 3rd – This is in Weare, and benefits the school’s art department.  Another one I definitely want to support, and close-by.
  4. Great Bay Charter School Holiday Craft Fair – November 10th – This in Exeter.
  5. Merrimack High School Annual Craft Fair – November 17th.
  6. Holiday Keene Craft Show – November 24th – This is a bit on the expensive side, but I can pay a deposit now and the rest later.  This one only allows 10-15 jewelery artists and requires pictures and a description of all products and equipment I’ll be using, so I need to figure out my display before I fill out the application.  This is also over the Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend when I’ll be running specials in my Etsy shop, so inventory management is going to be tricky.
  7. 23rd Annual Beaver Meadow School PTO Gourmet Bake and Craft Fair – December 1st – That’s a mouthful, isn’t it?

I’m having trouble finding any others in December that aren’t already full.  These would keep me busy every Saturday between October 27th and December 1st, though I’m open to other ones that are closer/cheaper/better if they are available.  There’s also Sundays and possible weekday events, as well.  Of course, while I’d love to do them all, the upfront costs are a bit out of my reach right now, so I’m going to have to pick and choose.  If you’d like to help me get to more shows, consider buying a gift certificate, which could of course be used when you come to any of the shows, or order online.  Stock up now and get your Christmas shopping done early! 🙂

Home Parties

Another idea I’ve been considering is home parties.  Ages ago, I used to be a Pampered Chef Consultant, and I really enjoyed the idea of getting a chance to explain and demonstrate the products to a small group of people, and help the host or hostess earn free stuff.  Why not apply that concept to my products?  Especially as we gear up for the holidays!  Wouldn’t it be awesome to go over to your friend’s house, have some wine and munchies, and get a bunch of awesome handmade gifts for your friends and family without having to make them yourself or brave the crowds at a craft fair?  It would also be a great way to do custom order consultations, and people could bring any jewelry that needs simple repairs.  And if I did these on Saturday nights, after the craft shows, or on Sundays, everything would already be packed up in my car. 😉

I’m still working out the details, but the person hosting the party would get a percentage of the total sales as credit toward their own purchases, and additional incentives if their friends book a party of their own.  This would work out to free gifts for yourself or your family and friends, just for inviting a few friends over and giving me a space to set up a display table.  So let me know if you’re interested in hosting!  Of course, you’d need to be somewhere that won’t take me more than a couple of hours to drive to (sorry Florida friends!) but perhaps I can do an online version of this too.  Need to get more items up online first, but it bears thinking about.  I’ll get back to you on that. 🙂

So with these ideas, I could be VERY busy between now and Christmas.  And I’m going to stop here and continue collecting my unorganized thoughts in future posts.  Stay tuned for Part 2: Inventory!

Five By Five Representing Christmas In July

Or maybe that should be Pre-presenting… whether you’re getting some early holiday shopping done or just buying yourself a present, Christmas In July sales are pretty awesome.  Many Etsy sellers are having their own Christmas In July celebration July 12-22, and I definitely want in on the fun.  So I’m offering 25% off your purchase when you use the coupon code RCIJ25 in my Etsy shop.  Please note this code only works for my shop, other Etsy sellers will have their own codes for their shops.  The code is good on any item in my shop, including custom orders and even gift certificates!

I’m going to be posting at least five new items every day during this promotion, so I thought this was a perfect time to kick off my Five By Five posts.  And of course, I had to do a Christmas theme!  Click on the pictures to go to the Etsy listing for more information.

And you get one more bonus listing, because I was thinking, Christmas and the holiday brouhaha tends to drive people a little crazy, right?  Sounds like the perfect occasion to wear a Straitjacket Hoodie to me!  And then I found this fabric:

Christmas Drives Me Crazy Straitjacket Hoodie - Made to Order - Christmas In July

Christmas Drives Me Crazy Straitjacket Hoodie – Made to Order – Christmas In July

Click on the pic to order your own custom made Christmas Drives Me Crazy Straitjacket Hoodie!  I only bought enough fabric to make one, and it was on clearance so I can’t guarantee I can get more.  Just imagine your family’s reaction when you wear it to your holiday celebration!  I’m disappointed I live too far away from my family to spend the holidays with them, or I’d make one for myself!

I also put up a photo album on my Facebook page with all the fabric I currently have in stock and available to make Straitjacket Hoodies, so go there and see if any of them strike your fancy.  I’m working on the ones that were claimed as perks in my IndieGoGo campaign, and finally have all the materials I need to make them.  Plus I’m trying to get my backlog of products up in my Etsy shop, finish my homework, clean my studio, and take care of wedding stuff.  No rest for the wicked, they say, and sometimes I think I must be really bad!  😛
