365 Days of Gratitude: January 1st, 2013

If you’ve never heard of a “Gratitude List” here’s how it works: every day you sit down and list three things you’re grateful for.  The goal is to find three positive things in your day, even if it’s the worst day you’ve ever had.  It inspires a positive attitude and reminds you of all the good things in your life.

I started doing this on January 1st, 2010, posting the list on my personal Facebook page.  Before I went to bed each night, I’d sit down and think over my day, and pick out my three things.  But lately I’ve gotten so busy that taking the time each night to do this has fallen off my list of priorities.  And I really feel the Gratitude List has a positive impact on my life, so it should make it back on my list of priorities.

I like to take time in the mornings to get my brain up to gear, so that’s a good time for me to think about my previous day, find the awesome bits and pump myself up for the day ahead.  And rather than just post it on my personal Facebook page, I’m going to start posting it here on my blog, so I can share it via Twitter and Google+ as well.  By sharing my list with you, I am hoping to inspire you to think about the good things in your own life, and I encourage you to post your own Gratitude List somewhere, whether it’s your own Facebook page, your own blog, a forum you frequent, or even here in the comments section.

I’m also adding a new addition to my Gratitude List.  I’ll still have my three things, but I’m also going to add one person I am grateful for.  It’s a way for me to publicly thank the people who’ve had the greatest impact on my life or just my day.  This may cause a bit of embarrassment for them as I gush about how wonderful they are, but it’s important to me to acknowledge the positive effects (and affects, yes both words apply here) they have on me.

So, let’s get started, shall we?

I am grateful for:

  1. My listeners’ understanding that I wasn’t feeling well enough to do a full 24-hour show, and that my health was more important.
  2. Waking up from my nap feeling much better than I had felt when I fell asleep.
  3. My first order of the year!

And the person I am grateful for is my husband, Lorne.  You knew I was going to start with him, didn’t you? 🙂

I am grateful for Lorne because he brings so much love and joy into my life.  He reminds me every day how much he loves me, and he is amazingly supportive of me and my business.  I know that I am not an easy person to live with or understand, but he does it with a smile.  Occasionally he might be gritting his teeth behind that smile, but still, he “gets” me and that’s no simple accomplishment.  He takes care of me, like making sure I remember to eat (as an artist, I get caught up in my creativity and forget those mundane things like eating and sleeping).  I’m really completely spoiled by him, which I’m sure is all part of his evil plan to make sure I never leave him. 😛  No chance of that, I am still completely ass over teakettle in love with him, and eternally grateful that he’s just as madly in love with me.

And now that you all need an insulin shot, I should probably get my day started and get some work done! 😛

  1. I’ve got a silver ring that I wear on a chain, that serves a similar purpose for me. Every day when I get up, I hold it and think of something that I’m thankful for. When I’m having a bad day, it reminds me of them.
